On Friday, January 27th, President Donald Trump signed an executive order temporarily banning 218 million people from entering the United States. The executive order blocked citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries for at least the next 90 days. Unfortunately for these people, the White House has stated that this is just their first step towards “establishing a broader ban” (CNN).
The Executive Order blocks citizens from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen from entering the United States, nearly 218 million people. It’s unknown how many more countries will be added to this list, but the Executive Order states that the list will keep growing. President Trump stated that the Executive Order would be good for “protecting the nation from foreign terrorist entry into the United States” (Donald Trump). Not only does this Executive Order block people from 7 countries from entering the United States, it also states that the secretary of Homeland Security must conduct a 30-day review to determine which countries do and don’t provide “adequate information” for its citizens to acquire visas to enter the country. Lastly, President Trump has stopped the admission of all refugees to the United States for four months. Not only does the order ban refugees from the crisis in the Middle East, it also bans refugees from South/Central America, and anywhere else in the world for that matter. In my opinion, this executive order isn’t helping anybody. While it may stop “terrorists” from entering the country, it is harming thousands of people. We need to help these refugees, and this executive order will do nothing to help the refugees around the world for the next four months. Banning people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S. isn’t going to help anyone either. In fact, all it has done is upset people. In response to this executive order, the president of Iran has banned all U.S. citizens from entering the country. I've heard a lot of things about this ban. I disagree with it, and think it harms more than it helps.

Great article, Justine! I did my Weebly blog on this too. I think that it isn't right to ban travel from only those seven countries, considering that we are all immigrants.
